The author noted that HWEW might more properly be called Partner Emotion Work (PEW). The HWEW (PEW) is a 15-item Likert-type questionnaire that assesses partners' perceptions of the work they put into caring for each other's emotional needs.

Comprehensive Areas of Change Questionnaire

The CAC is an 82-item Likert-type questionnaire used to categorize marital complaints and behaviors. The CAC is an expansion of the Areas of Change Questionnaire (AC, Weiss & Birchler, 1975).
