The COALES is a 39-item questionnaire designed to evaluate reports by children and adolescents from families with alcohol-abusing parents regarding family-related events they recently experienced.

The DPDS is a two-part, 12-item Likert-type questionnaire designed for use with spouses of alcohol abusers. The scale consists of 7 items measuring depression and 5 that assess marital discord, both of which are presumed to be cause by the partner's drinking.
