The SEI is a 47-item Likert-type scale designed to assess enabling behaviors on the part of spouses with alcohol-abusing partners.

The DPDS is a two-part, 12-item Likert-type questionnaire designed for use with spouses of alcohol abusers. The scale consists of 7 items measuring depression and 5 that assess marital discord, both of which are presumed to be cause by the partner's drinking.
